CMS guidelines for meeting Patient Electronic Access Objective: Part 1 [VIDEO]

Transcript

As most doctors know, meeting the Patient Electronic Access objective is a requirement for all professionals taking part in the EHR incentive programs.

To aid providers in meeting these standards, the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services recently released guidance for calculating patient electronic access across multiple providers.

The first guideline is a part of measure 1. It applies to providers in both stages 1 and 2 with patients who opt-out of EHR access. It states that patients who previously opted out and want to opt back in may be included in the numerator. That is, unless the provider requires follow up action from patients beforehand, such as a user ID and password or how to create an account.
